Job summary

West Des Moines Community Schools WESTRIDGE ELEMENTARY in West Des Moines, Iowa seeks a Custodian to keep the school facilities clean, safe, and well maintained. You will promote positive relationships with staff, students, supervisors and community members, and communicate any changes regarding assignments to the Head Custodian.

The role requires performing cleaning tasks, maintaining secure storage areas, and assisting with project work like floor refinishing and carpet cleaning.

Responsibilities

• Ensure school facilities are clean and well maintained.
• Promote positive relationships with staff, students, supervisors and community members.
• Communicate changes or concerns to Head Custodian or Maintenance/Custodial Manager regarding assignments.
• Perform cleaning: trash removal, sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, restocking supplies.
• Follow district policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Maintain custodial storage area inventory and organization.
• Keep custodial storage areas secured during shifts.
• Ensure facility security by keeping doors/windows shut and locked when appropriate.
• Return tools and supplies to secure storage at end of shift.
• Assist in projects: refinishing floors, cleaning carpet.
• Set up/tear down rooms for meetings, class functions, or athletic events; move furniture/equipment; store deliveries.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks.
• Complete snow removal and lawn care duties as required.
• Report safety hazards to Head Custodian or Maintenance/Custodial Manager.
• Participate in professional development and safety training.
• Maintain a reliable attendance record.
• Complete trainings as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
