Job summary

Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 is seeking a Personal Care Assistant / 1:1 Paraeducator to support students with instructional, behavioral and personal care needs under the guidance of the classroom teacher and program supervisor.

This school-year assignment may terminate early based on student placement or needs; it requires the ability to lift students and to participate in CPI/SCM/QBS training once provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• PA Paraeducator Credential or willingness to complete online program within 6 months.
• Minimum 48 post-secondary credits in any content area or an associate degree or higher.
• Willingness to complete 20 hours of staff development each school year.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional, behavioral and personal care support per the student’s IEP.
• Work under the classroom teacher and program supervisor supervision.
• Assist with lifting students and participate in required CPI/SCM/QBS training.

Status: Full-time

Schedule: 6.50 Hours/Day (7:45 am-2:15 pm), Monday-Friday 185 Days/Year

Minimum Hourly Salary: $20.00

Purpose of Position

The Personal Care Assistant / 1:1 Paraeducator is assigned to provide instructional, behavioral and personal care support as outlined in the student's Individual Education Plan. The assistant will be directed by the classroom teacher and is under the general supervision of the designated program supervisor. The assignment of the Personal Care Assistant/1:1 Paraeducator is for a school year and could terminate at any time, based on student placement or needs.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED,
• AND,
• 1. Hold a PA Paraeducator Credential of Competency Certificate (or be willing to complete the FREE online program within 6 months of hire date), or
• 2. Completed a minimum of 48 post-secondary credits in ANY content area, or
• 3. Completed associate degree or higher in ANY content area, and
• 4. Willing to complete 20 hours of staff development each school year

AND

As required by the PA Department of Education: Each school year, provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities related to position. Pro-ration will apply based on date of hire within the school year.

Essential Physical Requirement

The strength and ability to lift and/or assist in lifting students ranging in age from pre-school to twenty-one and any assistive appliances, for example: wheelchair. The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI), Safe Crisis Management (SCM) or Quality Behavior Supports (QBS) method, depending on program need, for which training will be provided.
