Job summary

SF Oral Surgery in San Francisco is seeking a Surgical Dental Assistant to support oral surgery procedures, patient care, and post-op education in a fast-paced, high-tech setting.

You will assist the surgeon, manage sterilization, record vitals, take X-rays and impressions, and use DSN EMR while upholding HIPAA standards. This full-time role offers training and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Current DA/RDA license and oral surgery experience are a plus.
  • Vaccinations: Hep B and Tetanus.
  • Proficiency in dental terminology and medical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in oral surgery procedures (local & IV sedation).
  • Prepare trays, sterilize equipment, maintain stock.
  • Record vitals, assist in consults, and support patients throughout their visit.
  • Prepare medications, assist with anesthesia, and deliver post-op instructions.
  • Take x-rays, impressions, and photos as needed.
  • Manage patient records accurately using DSN EMR while maintaining HIPAA.
  • Educate patients on postoperative care instructions and answer questions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment with infection control standards.

What You’ll Do

Every day will bring variety and challenge. You’ll be:

  • Assisting in oral surgery procedures (local & IV sedation)
  • Preparing trays, sterilizing equipment, maintaining stock
  • Recording vitals, assisting in consults, and supporting patients throughout their visit
  • Preparing medications, assisting with anesthesia, and delivering clear post-op instructions
  • Taking x-rays, impressions, and photos as needed
  • Ensuring smooth communication with referral doctors and keeping treatment plans organized
  • Prepare treatment rooms with sterile instruments, dental equipment, and supplies for oral surgery procedures.
  • Assist the oral surgeon during surgeries by handing instruments, managing suction, and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Take 3D scans using advanced CBCT imaging technology to aid diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Manage patient records accurately using DSN EMR software while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
  • Monitor vital signs and ensure patient safety before, during, and after procedures.
  • Process dental instruments through sterilization procedures following infection prevention management protocols.
  • Educate patients on postoperative care instructions and answer questions related to oral surgery treatments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by adhering to infection control standards and aseptic techniques.
Requirements
  • Vaccinations: Hep B & Tetanus
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Infection Control, X-ray License
  • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant Certification (preferred)
  • Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with a focus on oral surgery or general dentistry preferred.
  • Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, dental terminology, and medical documentation.
  • Knowledge of dental X-ray procedures, medical imaging, and dental sterilization processes.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as DSN or Patient Management Software is essential.
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention management, aseptic techniques, and healthcare infection control standards
  • Ability to accurately take vital signs and interpret basic medical information relevant to oral surgery patients.
  • Knowledge of anatomy relevant to oral surgery procedures is highly desirable
  • Consistent reliability and ability to work on your feet
