Job summary

UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh is seeking a Full-Time Nursing Assistant to support our Acute Care Unit at the McCandless location. Hired candidates will attend orientation (classroom-based and unit-based) at Passavant for up to two weeks prior to beginning in this role.

The role emphasizes patient care and teamwork, including assisting with ADLs, responding to call lights, and providing support to the RN and health care team to ensure safe, efficient care for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to call lights and telephones
  • Pass meal trays and transport patients
  • Perform UPMC core nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients)
  • Do point of care testing (e.g., blood glucose)
  • Record weights and vital signs
  • Monitor intake and output (I&O)
  • Operate and reapply telemetry monitors
  • Assist with HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs)
  • Assistance with dressings and placement/removal of restraints
  • Perform 12 lead EKGs
  • Bladder scan and specimen collection
  • IV catheter and Foley catheter removal
  • Communicate effectively with health care team
  • Maintain productive working relationships and accountability
  • Support safety and report equipment malfunctions
  • Assist with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies
  • Provide patient/family instruction under RN direction
  • Identify learning needs and seek feedback
  • Participate in self-review and department projects
  • Suggest improvements within the department
  • Maintain awareness of department efficiency and adhere to policies
  • Complete department clerical functions as needed
  • Transports cardiac monitored patients within the hospital
  • All competencies must be achieved.

ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Nursing Assistant to support our Acute Care Unit at the McCandless location.

Hired candidates will be required to attend orientation (classroom-based and unit-based) at Passavant for up to two weeks prior to beginning in this role.

Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to:
  • responding to call lights and telephones
  • passing meal trays and transporting patients.
  • Must routinely perform the UPMC core nursing assistant responsibilities including:
  • ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients
  • Point of care testing (inc. blood glucose)
  • Weights & vital signs
  • I&O
  • Telemetry monitor application/reapplication

  • Cares for patients and self by supporting safety in the workplace and reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department.
  • Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
  • Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.
  • Provides instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN. Constructively receives feedback and direction.
  • Identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director.
  • Takes action to improve knowledge, skills and performance.
  • Participates in self-review as requested by the unit director.
  • Participates in project and committee work.
  • Suggests and supports changes within the department.
  • Assumes responsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges.
  • Demonstrates awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department.
  • Strictly adheres to all policies and procedures relative to patient care and hospital related information.
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions.
  • Documents in the medical record according to established procedures.
  • Performs assigned work in a timely and productive manner.
  • Transports cardiac monitored patients within the hospital setting.
  • Completes department clerical functions as needed
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
