Responsibilities and Duties

WHO/WHAT: When a couple loves Monopoly enough to build it into their wedding, you know they take game night seriously. So, career nannies, pull up a chair. There’s an open spot on the board. Current pieces include: two very loving parents, one ridiculously smiley seven-month-old, two giant dogs, a wooded Sewickley property, and a family with big hopes for what the next several years might look like. The missing piece? You.

And before anyone asks: no, you do not have to pass GO. You do not have to collect $200. You do not have to prove that you can buy up the entire orange section before anyone else notices. You do, however, need to know babies. Their little guy is seven months old and entering that very fun stage where something new seems to happen approximately every 48 hours. He’s social, easygoing, full of huge smiles, increasingly mobile, and fascinated by food, swimming, textures, people, and every object he can possibly reach. Your days will revolve around helping him discover a little more of the world every day. Read books. Sing songs. Introduce new foods. Get outside. Encourage movement. Plan sensory play. Make silly faces. Repeat the same book seven times because apparently page four remains absolutely riveting. He’s also working with a physical therapist on a few developmental skills, and Mom and Dad would love a nanny who enjoys being part of that team. Learn what his PT is working on. Find playful ways to practice. And then celebrate like you just landed on Boardwalk when he finally masters something new.

This family also firmly believes that babies should reguarly leave the house. So if you notice everyone could use a change of scenery, make your move. Library morning? Go. Baby music class? Sign up. Zoo? Absolutely. Museum? Great. Playdate with another nanny and little one? Even better. Because while the job comes with a schedule, it does not come with Mom and Dad handing you an itinerary every morning. They want someone who can say, “Here’s what I’m seeing,” and bring thoughtful recommendations about development, feeding, routines, or activities. You know the rules of great infant care, but you’re experienced enough to know every baby requires a slightly different strategy. You’re confident enough to make a move without waiting for someone else to roll first. Mom and Dad will always make the final parenting decisions. But they genuinely want your experience at the table.

You’ll take care of bottles and meals, children’s laundry, some family laundry, vacuuming, sweeping, and the ordinary tidying that keeps a busy home moving. Weekly professional cleaners handle the deep cleaning. So if you landed on “Scrub the grout while the baby naps,” please return that card to the box. It does not belong in this game. Then there are the dogs. They don’t require significant care or walks, but you’ll occasionally open a door, refill water, and enforce some boundaries between baby food and dog food.

This isn't a role they expect to disappear once their baby reaches preschool. They’re hoping to find someone who starts with one baby and eventually knows an entire sibling crew. As the family grows, the role and compensation will grow too. They’re not asking, “Who can get us through this stage?” They’re asking, “Who do we want around for all the stages?” Their current nanny’s assessment of their family: “they deserve the world,” which means we’re looking for someone pretty wonderful to take the next turn.

THE IDEAL NANNY IS… READY TO PLAY THE LONG GAME.

You’re a career nanny with strong infant experience and enough years behind you to know that babies do not always follow the official rulebook. You understand development. You understand routines. You understand feeding and safety. You don’t need a parent standing beside you telling you when to roll.

Because this family isn’t looking for someone to make one quick trip around the board. They’re hoping for enough trips that, eventually, you barely recognize the board you started with. The baby starts walking. Then talking. Then going to preschool. A sibling arrives. The stroller gets traded for scooters. The board books disappear. The high chair finally leaves the kitchen. And someday, the seven-month-old who once tried to eat every game piece in sight might be old enough to actually sit down and beat you at Monopoly. If you’re still sitting at the table when that happens, we’d call that a pretty big win.
