Job summary

Melrose Public Schools is seeking a Full-Time Building Substitute for the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School in Melrose, Massachusetts. The role offers a daily rate of $115 for 180 days, focused on maintaining continuity of instruction in the absence of a regular teacher.

Responsibilities include implementing lesson plans, supervising students, and upholding district policies while ensuring a safe, respectful learning environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Education graduation from an accredited high school or college.
• Successful completion of background check, CORI and fingerprinting.
• Grade level and content licensure is required when applicable. Dual licensure including SPED, ESL, ELL, or bilingual licensure and/or proficiency in a language or languages other than English is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
• Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policies.
• Ensure the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Report to office upon arrival and departure at school.
• Review lesson plans, materials, and/or instructions left by absent teacher.
• Report student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or discipline problems to the school principal immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
• Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
• Organize students for effective instruction.
• Dismiss all students from the classroom before leaving the building.
• Comply with and support school and district regulations and policies.
• Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities; and
• Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school policies and practices.
