Job summary

D&W Fresh Market in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Meat Cutter to accurately cut and prepare meats to variety, size, and trim standards while contributing to the store's financial performance. You will weigh and portion steaks and chops, create value-added products, follow recipes, rotate stock, and keep displays clean and well stocked.

Prior meat-cutting or apprentice experience is preferred; a high school diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and interpret documents.
• Detail oriented with precision in cutting and weighing products.
• Basic mathematical skills for pricing, dating and portioning.

Responsibilities

• Cut and weigh steaks, chops, and other meats for individual servings.
• Produce value-added products following established guidelines.
• Cut, trim, and bone carcass sections to cooking cuts as directed.
• Follow recipes to grind and tray meats and make sausage and other products.
• Price, date, wrap and bag meat products per guidelines.
• Fill, rotate and merchandise shelves, cases and displays.
• Notify management when products or supplies need ordering.
• Receive, unload and stock merchandise.
• Maintain knowledge of products, prices, and preparation methods.
• Practice suggestive selling and deliver friendly guest service.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the department.
• Follow PPE, safety, food safety, and guest experience guidelines.
• Assist other departments as needed.

Position Summary

This role is responsible to properly cut all types of meats into various types of cuts and all preparation of related products in the variety, size, quality, and trim prescribed by company and department standards; to ensure that the work shift contributes to the financial best interests of the store. Complete all other duties as assigned in a timely manner.

Here’s what you’ll do

• Cut and weigh steaks, chops, etc. for individual servings.
• Produce 'value-added' products per established guidelines.
• Cut, trim, and bone carcass sections or prime cuts to reduce to cooking cuts.
• Follow established recipes to grind and tray meats and make sausage and other products.
• Price, date, wrap and/or bag meat products per established guidelines using department scales.
• Properly fill, rotate and merchandise shelves, cases and displays.
• Notify the manager if products and supplies need to be ordered.
• Receives, unloads, and stocks merchandise.
• Have familiarity with all products carried in the department; know differences in price, taste, preparation, use etc.
• Practice suggestive selling techniques with customers.
• Maintain a clean, attractive and well stocked department.
• Follow all PPE and Safety Guidelines
• Follow all Food Safety and Cleaning Expectations
• Follow Guest Experience Guidelines
• May be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer experience need
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed

Here’s what you’ll need

• High school diploma or GED
• One (1) year retail or other related experience preferred. Prior experience in a Meat Cutter, Apprentice role strongly preferred.
• Ability to read, write, comprehend, and interpret documents
• Basic mathematical skills
