Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assume administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for supervising and directing maintenance department
  • May assume on-call responsibilities as scheduled, including weekends and holidays
  • Organize and maintain all records necessary to operate maintenance department
  • Develop and implement repair and maintenance schedules for all areas of facility and grounds
  • Enter information and maintain all required logs in a neat, organized, and timely manner
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of written maintenance department policies and procedures
  • Supervise schedules for repair and maintenance contractors
  • Review department’s policies and procedures manual, job descriptions, etc., at least annually for revisions and make recommendation to Administrator
  • Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms, reports, evaluation studies, etc
  • Delegate a responsible manager to act in you behalf when you are absent from facility
  • Conducts department meetings to insure goals are being met and request input on departmental operations.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance programs, and any facility committee or programs, which seek to improve the performance and accuracy of resident care.
  • Evaluate and implement recommendations from established committees (i.e. Infection Control, QA, etc.).
  • Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with our established policies and procedures, and as instructed by your supervisors.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
  • Meet with administrator as needed, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.
  • Report all complaints and grievances made by the resident.
  • Follows established personnel policies according to employee handbook as well as established policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to ensure that services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Attends facility and corporate departmental meetings as required.
  • Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of department personnel
  • Ensure that supplies are requested, approved and ordered according to policy.
  • Orients new employees to maintenance duties
  • Conducts In-services (Infection Control/OSHA & CDC, Fire Prevention & Safety, Emergency/Disaster, Accident/Incident, Resident Rights, Confidentiality, Psychosocial needs & caring for aged, ill, disabled, cognitively impaired, Abuse Protection, etc.)
  • Attend and participate in orientation programs as necessary.
Working Conditions
  • Works throughout the physical plant and ground of facility.
  • Moves intermittently during work hours.
  • Sits, stands, pushes, bends, stoops and walks intermittently through the workday.
  • May lift and move patients and equipment.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • Communicates with nursing personnel and other department personnel.
  • Works beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  • Is subject to callback during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post – disaster, etc.).
  • Attends and participates in continuing education programs.
  • Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, bruise, scratches and odors, etc throughout the work day, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke and the air contaminants.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including but not limited to TB AIDS and Hepatitis B. Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure – Category One (High Exposure Risk).
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Education & Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited high school or GED preferred.
  • Computer knowledge desirable
Experience
  • 1 years supervisory experience required. Previous long-term care experience is desirable.
  • Maintenance experience in all areas of machinery and facility repair required.
