Job summary

YMCA of Southwestern Indiana is seeking a dedicated Lifeguard/Instructor to ensure pool safety and deliver swim instruction. You will supervise youth, enforce policies, and participate in training and in-services to maintain high safety standards.

Responsibilities include lifeguarding, teaching swim lessons when qualified, and assisting the Coordinator with program duties. A 40-hour work week is expected, with opportunities to mentor staff and support community wellness initiatives.

Qualifications

• Must complete abuse risk management training within 60 days.
• CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen and Blood Borne Pathogen training required within 60 days of employment.
• Child Abuse Prevention training required before/on first day of working with consumers.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard.
• Certified YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor preferred (required within first 90 days).
• Pass a skills test including, but not limited to: 300-yard swim and submerged passive rescue.
• Work for YMCA of Southwestern Indiana or a reputable Aquatics facility for 12 months and demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures.

• Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities & supervising youth.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• All duties of Lifeguard and Instructor.
• Train and mentor Lifeguards and Instructors.
• Assist with monthly in-services on a rotating schedule.
• Run Red Ball/Zone/Pool Counts evaluation drills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• A 40-hour work week is the expectation.
• There is an opportunity to teach swim lessons, private lessons, and water fitness classes based on qualifications.
