Job summary

The St. Cloud Area Family YMCA is seeking a full-time Lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions across the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. You will communicate pool rules and Y programs to members and participants, and support a positive, orderly aquatic environment.

Responsibilities include constant monitoring, responding to emergencies per Y policies, and assisting instructors with class setup. Must be 16+, with current Lifeguard and CPR/AED certifications, and strong judgment.

• Ability to relate to people in a positive, but firm manner; observant and safety conscious.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas.
• Respond to emergencies following Y policies; complete incident reports as required.
• Maintain relationships with members and other staff; develop rapport with members.
• Convey information on Y programs/schedules to members and refer to other programs as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and training; take pool attendance and maintain records.
• Perform routine pool/area maintenance and check equipment; assist instructors.

Full time Lifeguard (36-40 hours weekly) Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and surrounding areas. Positively communicate information on pool rules and Y programs.

Requirements

• Must be 16 years of age or older
• Current Lifeguarding and CPR/AED for the PR certifications required.
• Must maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness and have mature judgment and sound decision-making.
• Ability to relate to people in a positive, but firm manner; must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
• Must be able to effectively communicate information on aquatics and other Y programs to members and participants.

General Functions

• Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas. Prevents accidents by maintaining constant observation of the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules and maintaining emergency readiness.
• Responds to emergency situations in accordance with Y policies and procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as required.
• Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff. Develops rapport with members.
• Conveys basic information on Y programs and schedules to members, and as appropriate, refers members to other programs and/or staff.
• Attends staff meetings and training courses as scheduled.
• Takes pool attendance and maintains related records as required.
• Performs routine maintenance of the pool and surrounding areas, to ensure cleanliness.
• Checks pool and rescue equipment and promptly reports any problems.
• Sets up and stores equipment for recreational swims and assists instructors with class set up.
