Job summary

Barre Unified Union School District – Barre Town Middle and Elementary School in Barre, Vermont is seeking a permanent substitute for the 2026-2027 school year. The role involves full-time employment serving students in grades PreK–8.

Pay is $18.00 per hour with benefits including health insurance, sick time, and personal time. Responsibilities include following substitute plans, maintaining routines, supervising students, and reporting daily activities.

• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

• Receive daily placement from the substitute coordinator.
• Review all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
• Maintain established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
• Teach the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute Plans as prepared by the absent teacher.
• Assume responsibility for overseeing student behavior during times when under substitute supervision.
• Complete reports on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day/period/block.
• Follow policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject with good teaching practice.
• Perform other duties as assigned when not assigned to a classroom.
• Assisting in the classroom, library/learning center, or other instructional setting.
• Supervising students in areas outside of the classroom.
