Full Time Health Records Technician – La Verendrye General Hospital, Health Records Department, Full-time, CUPE 4807 Pay Schedule.
Salary: $29.46/hr to $34.64/hr (Step 1–5).
Qualifications Necessary
- Grade 12 or equivalent acceptable to the Corporation;
- Registered Certified Health Information Management professional;
- Current membership with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA);
- Entry‑level technician willing to expand job knowledge and skills; experience is an asset;
- Understands and maintains confidentiality;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Proficient use of computer software, including Word and Excel;
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Ability to perform varied tasks with minimal supervision;
- Dependable with an excellent attendance record;
- Physically capable of performing the essential duties of the job.
Basic Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Health Records & Registration, the technician is responsible for coding, abstracting, and submitting Health Records information using ICD‑10‑CA/CCI Coding Classification System and Coding Standards.
Also responsible for Medical/Legal Release of Information.
General Duties
- Attend and participate in in‑service educational sessions and on‑the‑job training programs, workshops, seminars, as approved.
- Promote goals and objectives of the corporation.

- Adhere strictly to principles of confidentiality.
- Promote continuous quality improvement principles and participate in ongoing activities.
- Other duties as directed by the Supervisor, Health Records & Registration.
Specific Duties
ICD-10-CA/CCI Classifications:
- Code and abstract Health Records using ICD‑10‑CA/CCI Coding Classifications for DAD and NACRS.
- Perform data quality checks on DAD and NACRS data prior to submission to CIHI.
- Perform month‑end balance of DAD and NACRS data prior to submission to CIHI.
- Submit data via the CIHI Web site, following CIHI and Ministry of Health and Long‑Term Care submission schedules.
- Receive error messages from CIHI, correct and re‑submit corrections.
Release of Legal/Medical Information:
- Receipting and logging of all Medical/Legal Information requests.
- Responding to and preparing all Medical/Legal Information requests.
- Maintaining all files related to release of information.
- Preparing and submitting invoices for the Business Office.
- Obtaining proper patient consent.
Statistical:
- Prepare monthly Release of Information report.
- Assist the Supervisor of Health Records & Patient Information Services in the preparation and distribution of statistical reporting.
Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of Patient Records:
- Perform quantitative analysis on all in‑patient records to identify deficiencies.
- Prepare and distribute deficiency slips for Nursing Deficiencies.
- Enter all Physician Deficiencies in the Physician Deficiency Log and place charts on the Incomplete Record Shelf and/or in the Physician Deficiency Folder accordingly.
- Perform re‑check on patient records once the physician has completed, process chart accordingly, and adjust the Physician’s Deficiency Log.
- Prepare and distribute Physician Deficiency Letters bi‑weekly.
Reporting:
- Assist the Director of Health Informatics & Privacy in various chart audits.
