Job summary

Hazen Union School in Hardwick, Vermont is seeking a Floating Support Staff member to serve as a full-time substitute for absent staff. The role covers substitute teaching, support and clerical duties while supervising students and maintaining classroom routines.

The position under the district’s Master Agreement offers hourly pay of $21 to $27 with emphasis on reliability, professionalism, and strong communication. Must meet minimum qualifications and pass a background check.

Qualifications

• The skills needed to support a structured environment and encourage self-directed learning.
• A certificate in teaching is a plus, but not required.
• High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
• The age requirement is 21 years or older to work with students in grades 7-12.
• Applicants without at least 38 college credits will be required to obtain Highly Qualified status, testing materials, and time provided.
• Detail-oriented and able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Able to communicate effectively with other personnel and faculty.
• Able to cultivate relationships with pupils in a brief period.
• Confidence and capability in instructing in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Willing and able to work standing for most of the day, with few breaks to sit with outdoor assignments as needed.
• Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Google platforms and data entry.
• The ability to pass a full background check.
• At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• Associate degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Responsibilities

• Use materials provided to attain lesson goals
• Direct the classroom, accomplishing curriculum objectives and goals outlined in the lesson plans
• Take attendance according to the procedures of the school, keep the classroom and work orderly, and maintain normal classroom rhythms
• Comply with all procedures, guidelines, and policies of the school at all times
• Maintain a professional attitude in all manner of conduct with students, faculty, and parents, including a commitment to confidentiality
