• Uses custodial equipment and supplies including brooms, mops, vacuums, buffers, and other cleaners.
• Cleans windows, light fixtures, and other items, including elevated areas up to eight feet.
• Cleans and polishes desks, chairs, tables, cabinets, and equipment.
• Collects and disposes of trash and maintains restrooms.
• Unloads supplies and delivers to storage areas.
• Performs grounds work such as grass cutting and snow removal.
• Performs routine safety and security duties.
• Able to lift 50 pounds.
• Makes minor repairs to equipment and assists using school facilities.
• Arranges rooms for meetings and conferences.

JOB SUMMARY: Custodians are responsible for the routine safety, security, upkeep, general cleanliness, and healthful environment of buildings and grounds owned by the Caroline County Public Schools. (6:30am-3:00pm)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Selects appropriate equipment and supplies and sweeps and cleans floors, walls, and partitions in all areas of buildings including classrooms, offices, corridors, gymnasiums, mechanical rooms, locker rooms, and lavatories.
• Uses brooms, brushes, mops, power-operated scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, buffers, carpet sweepers, liquid floor finishers, dust absorbers, and other custodial equipment and supplies.
• Washes and cleans windows, light fixtures, ventilators, and other items which may require climbing in excess of eight feet.
• Cleans and polishes desks, chairs, tables, cabinets, and other office or classroom equipment.
• Collects and disposes of trash, scrap, and garbage.
• Maintains restrooms in a clean and sanitary condition.
• Unloads supplies and delivers to proper storage areas.
• Performs grounds work as assigned including grass cutting, snow removal, etc.
• Performs routine safety and security duties.
• Is able to lift 50 pounds.
• Assumes additional responsibilities due to special circumstances.
• Makes minor repairs to equipment as required.
• Assists organizations using school facilities.
• Arranges rooms for meetings and conferences.
• Reacts to change productively and performs other duties as assigned.

PAY & HOURS: This position is a 12-month position with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Caroline County Board of Education, Support Services Personnel Salary Schedule. Placement on the appropriate salary lane/step will be based on knowledge, experience, skills, and training related to this position.
