Job summary

Harris Teeter in Sterling, VA is seeking a supervisor for the Dairy/Frozen Department. You will lead up to 10 associates, directing daily tasks, training new hires, and ensuring stocking aligns with Dairy/Frozen standards while maintaining store safety and customer service.

You will manage performance, coordinate with the department, and address issues to ensure smooth operation and high customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to train and develop associates.
• High school diploma or GED required; prior retail supervisory exposure preferred.
• Must be able to use common computer and inventory systems as part of daily duties.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise up to 10 associates in the Dairy/Frozen Department.
• Direct, coordinate, and evaluate department activities per Harris Teeter policies.
• Interview, train, assign, and evaluate staff; handle performance issues and coaching.
• Ensure proper stocking per Dairy/Frozen standards; maintain cleanliness and safety.
• Provide exceptional customer service and resolve issues efficiently.

Job description

Manage and supervise up to 10 associates in the Dairy/Frozen Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Harris Teeter's policies and standards. Responsibilities may include interviewing and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; assist in appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responsible for processing/stocking products according to Dairy/Frozen Standards, cleaning work areas, providing customer service, unloading stock, and reloading salvage.

PERSONAL SKILLS. Exceptional interpersonal skills. Willingness to participate in and successfully complete required training and to work with the team to increase customer satisfaction and sales.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos [in English]. Ability to write simple correspondence [in English]. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization who only speak English.

COMPUTER SKILLS. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of HT Internet software; E-mail; Inventory software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement.

REASONING ABILITY. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS. Complete Company's training including but not limited to: new hire orientation, food sanitation, customer service network, safety, vendor receiving, department manager training, and product knowledge.

Compensation

• Pay Transparency: Harris Teeter reasonably expects to pay between $19.00/hour and $29.50/hour for this role as a newly hired associate. Pay may depend on previous experience and skill sets of the applicant.

You will be eligible for Harris Teeter’s group benefit plans that pertain to your position upon the completion of applicable waiting periods. Your eligibility for these benefits is subject to the terms of the applicable plan and Harris Teeter policy.
