Job summary

Rehabilitation & Correction - Marion Correctional is seeking a full-time Correction Officer to maintain security, supervise inmate activity and enforce facility policies. You will operate security systems, conduct counts, and participate in safety rounds to prevent escapes.

Starting wage is $24.88/hour with progression to $25.61 after 6 months; a $0.60/hour shift differential may apply on 2nd or 3rd shift. A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; valid driver's license for transportation duties.
• Must pass correction officer assessment or have completed assessment within past 24 months; or be a current employee with certification.
• Correction officer certification or equivalent required; probationary period 365 days.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of the institution to provide for safety and security by enforcing rules/policies.
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility.
• Assure assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
• Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
• Complete required reports and serve on committees.
• Prevent escapes or incidents which threaten security.
• When necessary, use physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates.
• Newly hired Correction Officer will be hired at step 1 $24.88 and will move to step 2 $25.61 after 6 months employment.
• Earn an additional .60 per hour working 2nd or 3rd shift.
