Job summary

Amperesand, Inc. is seeking an on-site software engineering intern to join a startup team building the ERP and manufacturing platform that powers our operations. You will contribute across the frontend and backend, delivering new features, improving reliability, and bringing AI-enabled capabilities into internal tools.

You will work with engineers, product owners, and stakeholders relying on our ERP ecosystem daily, taking ownership of real production-facing tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with Go for backend development (coursework, projects, internship).
• Experience with TypeScript and React, including component-based development and state management.
• Exposure to AI/LLM concepts and hands-on experience with applied AI tooling (LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented search, prompting, AI features).
• Comfort using AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude, or Copilot in IDE for coding, reviewing, refactoring, and testing.
• Basic understanding of REST APIs and client-server architecture.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Strong communication and ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Available to work on-site at Reno, NV office 5 days/week.
• Ideal internship engagement for at least 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Build and support full stack features for internal ERP and manufacturing platform (Go backend, TS/React frontend).
• Design and implement AI-enabled features like natural-language search, document summarization, and data extraction from forms/invoices/work orders.
• Implement retrieval and embedding pipelines, LLM API integrations, prompt templates, and frontend patterns for clear AI output.
• Use AI-enabled development tools (Cursor/Claude) to improve velocity and code quality.
• Support observability, metrics, dashboards, and system visibility improvements.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and automated testing to increase release speed and reliability.
• Automate CI/CD and developer workflows with AI agents for tasks like triaging builds and generating tests.
• Collaborate with backend, frontend, and product teams to define APIs and data contracts.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues for internal/external users of ERP and manufacturing ecosystem.
• Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews; document features and decisions.

Role Summary

This internship is an opportunity to work hands-on with a startup engineering team building the ERP and manufacturing platform that powers Amperesand's operations. You will contribute across both frontend and backend, helping ship new features, improve reliability, and bring AI-enabled capabilities into our internal tools. AI shows up in this internship in two ways: the AI features you help build into the product, and the AI tools you build with — we expect interns to work fluently with AI coding assistants such as Cursor and Claude, and to look for places where agentic AI can automate engineering work like CI/CD, testing, and code review.

You will work closely with engineers, product owners, and internal and external stakeholders who rely on our proprietary ERP and manufacturing ecosystem every day. This is a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment where you'll be expected to take ownership of real, production-facing work.

Responsibilities

• Build and support full stack features for our internal ERP and manufacturing operations platform, spanning Go backend services and TypeScript/React frontend applications.
• Help design and implement AI-enabled features that improve how internal and external stakeholders interact with the platform — such as natural-language search over company knowledge, document summarization, and data extraction from forms, invoices, and work orders.
• Implement the supporting pieces behind those features: retrieval and embedding pipelines, integrations with LLM provider APIs, prompt templates, and the frontend patterns that present AI output clearly and honestly to users.
• Use AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or Claude in the IDE as part of your daily workflow to increase your velocity and code quality.
• Support observability and metrics efforts, including instrumenting services, building dashboards, and improving system visibility.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and automated testing to increase release speed and reliability.
• Automate CI/CD and developer-workflow efforts through agentic AI — for example agents that triage failing builds, generate and maintain tests, review pull requests, or handle routine release and deployment tasks.
• Collaborate with backend, frontend, and product teams to define APIs and data contracts.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues raised by internal and external users of the ERP and manufacturing ecosystem.
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code review.
• Document features, architectural decisions, and processes for cross-functional stakeholders.
• Bring a customer-oriented, team-first mindset to a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with Go for backend development (coursework, personal projects, or prior internship experience).
• Experience with TypeScript and React, including component-based development and state management.
• Exposure to AI/LLM concepts and some hands-on experience with applied AI tooling — for example calling LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented search, prompting, or building small AI-powered features.
• Comfortable using AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude, or Copilot directly in the IDE to write, review, refactor, and test code — and curious about pushing those tools further.
• Basic understanding of REST APIs and client-server architecture.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Strong communication skills and comfort working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment.
• Available to work on-site at our Reno, Nevada, USA office 5 days/week.
• The ideal internship engagement/attachment period for this role would be for at least 1 year.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with observability or metrics tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
• Exposure to ERP, MES, or other manufacturing/industrial software systems.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks (unit, integration, or end-to-end).
• Prior internship or project experience supporting customers or external stakeholders.
• Interest or coursework in energy systems, power electronics, or industrial automation.
• Open-source contributions or personal projects demonstrating full stack ability.
• Experience with AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, or similar cloud services).
• Experience building LLM or AI-powered application features such as semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation, summarization, or assistant-style workflows.
• Familiarity with embeddings and vector search tools such as pgvector, Qdrant, Pinecone, or similar.
• Exposure to prompt engineering, function and tool calling, or evaluating the quality of AI-generated output.
• Experience using AI agents to automate engineering workflows such as testing, code review, build triage, or deployment pipelines.

Please note: This role requires working on-site. We do not offer hybrid or remote options for this internship.

Onsite Collaboration Rationale:
Given the highly collaborative and cross-functional nature of hardware, embedded systems, and product development, in-person partnership across engineering and product teams is critical to enabling rapid execution, technical alignment, and successful development outcomes.
