Job summary

Citi in Tampa, Florida, seeks a Full Stack Java Engineering Manager to lead design and delivery of full-stack Java applications powering Citi's technology platforms. You will write code, pair with engineers, and influence architecture within a global engineering team.

You will mentor engineers, shape architecture decisions, and drive cloud-native solutions using Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift, while emphasizing quality, testing, and agile delivery practices.

Qualifications

• Bring 8+ years of professional experience in Java development.
• Apply best practices: unit testing, automation, design patterns, peer reviews.
• Strong understanding of data structures and OOP in Java.
• Build cloud-native apps with Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Design microservices with REST and GraphQL.
• Develop with Spring Boot and CI/CD pipelines (Tekton, Harness, CircleCI, Jenkins).
• Deliver software through agile, iterative practices.
• Hold a BA/BS degree or equivalent.

Job description

As a Full Stack Java Engineering Manager at Citi, you will build and deliver full-stack Java applications that power business-critical technology platforms used across the organization. You will write code, pair with fellow engineers, and act as a strong contributor within an agile team, breaking down backlog priorities to clarify complexity and delivery risk. This is an opportunity to influence software architecture, mentor engineering talent, and help shape technology strategy within a global engineering organization.

Responsibilities

Design and build full-stack Java applications using modern cloud-native architectures that power Citi's technology platforms. Write high-quality, testable code and pair with fellow engineers to accelerate delivery and improve solution quality. Break down user stories and acceptance criteria to clarify scope, complexity, and risk for the team's backlog. Deliver working software each sprint as an active contributor within an agile engineering team. Design and document enterprise-grade applications using current technologies and proven software design patterns. Apply engineering expertise across the software development lifecycle and partner with stakeholders to resolve issues. Help define and evolve technical and team standards for engineering delivery. Partner with technical leadership to shape architecture decisions and align delivery with the broader technology strategy.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bring 8 or more years of professional experience developing software applications in Java.
• Apply software engineering best practices such as unit testing, automation, design patterns, and peer code review.
• Demonstrate a strong grasp of data structures and object-oriented principles using Java.
• Build cloud-native applications using container orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
• Design service-oriented and microservices architectures, including REST and GraphQL implementations.
• Develop applications using frameworks such as Spring Boot.
• Work with continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines using tools such as Tekton, Harness, CircleCI, or Jenkins.
• Deliver software through agile and iterative development practices.
• Hold a BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

• Bring architecture experience building horizontally scalable, highly available, resilient, and low-latency applications.
• Work with cloud infrastructure across on-premise and public cloud environments such as OpenShift or AWS.
• Apply event-driven design and architecture using tools such as Kafka, Spark, or Flink.
• Use API management tools to support service integration and delivery.
• Apply infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Use security, observability, and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, ELK, or CloudWatch.
• Mentor and provide technical leadership for engineering teams of 5 or more developers.
• Bring exposure to database concepts across RDBMS and NoSQL, along with web technologies such as Angular or React.
