Job summary

OpenAI, Inc. is seeking a full-time, hybrid Software Engineer for the Privacy Engineering team.

You will build internal tools and data pipelines that power lawful data access workflows and support Legal Operations, ensuring accuracy, auditable processes, and strong privacy controls. You’ll translate ambiguous requirements into reliable systems, collaborate with Legal, Privacy, Security, and Engineering, and own production reliability from testing to incident response in a demanding

Qualifications

• Experience building or operating systems for lawful data access requests with auditable workflows.
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals and production services experience.
• Ability to reason about correctness, authorization, security, and privacy when handling sensitive data.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend systems and workflow tooling for lawful data access requests from intake to audit.
• Build reliable data pipelines and interfaces across products and data stores for accurate record handling.
• Implement least-privilege access, approval gates, provenance, and audit trails for sensitive workflows.
