Job summary

Salt is seeking a Full Stack Engineer to help build high-performance software at the intersection of cybersecurity, network traffic analysis, and distributed systems. You’ll join a small, autonomous team delivering features from concept to production on a scalable platform.

You will own parts of the stack, improve reliability, and apply AI tools to accelerate development while maintaining security and quality.

Qualifications

Full Stack Engineer

Location: Fully Remote - USA

Department: Product Engineering

About the Opportunity We’re looking for a Full Stack Engineer to help build and scale high-performance software at the intersection of cybersecurity, network traffic analysis, and distributed systems. You’ll join a small, highly technical team working on systems that inspect live network traffic, analyze encrypted connections, and process data with extremely low latency. This is an opportunity to tackle complex engineering challenges where performance, reliability, and security are fundamental to the product. You’ll be building on an established platform with existing customers and production infrastructure, allowing you to deliver meaningful improvements and new capabilities quickly. We’re looking for an engineer who combines strong technical judgment with a high degree of autonomy, takes ownership beyond implementation, and uses AI tools extensively to accelerate development without compromising quality.

What You’ll Do

• Build and ship end-to-end: Take features from initial concept and technical design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing production support.
• Engineer for performance: Develop and optimize low-latency services that handle high-throughput traffic and demanding workloads.
• Work on complex networking challenges: Contribute to systems involving encrypted traffic inspection, TLS termination, protocol analysis, and security-sensitive data processing.
• Own technical direction: Lead a functional area, make architectural decisions, identify opportunities for improvement, and help establish engineering best practices.
• Design for reliability: Implement monitoring, observability, and resilience measures to ensure services perform consistently under real-world conditions.
• Build across the stack: Develop robust backend services and intuitive frontend experiences using modern technologies.
• Integrate AI into your workflow: Leverage AI coding assistants and agents to accelerate problem-solving, development, testing, and delivery while maintaining strong engineering standards.
• Solve ambiguous problems: Identify gaps, define solutions, and move initiatives forward independently rather than relying on detailed specifications.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong engineering experience: Approximately 5-7+ years of experience building and operating production software, with demonstrated ownership of systems from design through deployment and maintenance.
• AI-first development practices: Proven, hands-on proficiency with AI-powered development tools and agents, including the ability to use them effectively while validating code quality, correctness, security, and performance.
• Backend expertise: Strong experience with at least one modern backend language, such as Go, Rust, or TypeScript/Node.js.
• Frontend proficiency: Hands-on experience building production applications with React and TypeScript.
• Distributed systems and performance: Experience with high-throughput services, asynchronous processing, streaming I/O, latency optimization, and production troubleshooting.
• Networking fundamentals: A solid understanding of HTTP, TLS, and service communication patterns, including REST and gRPC.
• TLS and traffic inspection: Practical experience with TLS interception, man-in-the-middle (MITM) inspection, or closely related network security technologies, including their technical and security implications.
• Production ownership: A track record of improving reliability, investigating complex failures, using observability data, and meeting measurable performance targets.
• Technical leadership: The ability to make sound engineering decisions, work independently through ambiguity, and influence technical outcomes through execution and expertise.
