Job description

Are you passionate about medical image technology, and do you want to work in a highly international and growing team? NordicNeuroLab is looking for a full-stack engineer to lead the software development work together with a major player in the field.

NordicNeuroLab AS is a leading supplier of hardware and software for functional MRI studies, used for the diagnosis of disease and injury related to brain function. Our customers include hospitals and research centers worldwide. We are a global company with headquarters in Bergen, Norway and an additional software hub in Oslo. Our employees have a diverse background from different disciplines and we offer excellent career opportunities in a dynamic environment.

Approximately half of your time will be dedicated to the continued development of nordicAktiva, our clinical stimulus presentation and workflow software for functional MRI (fMRI) examinations. nordicAktiva is the application MRI technologists use to conduct brain mapping examinations, presenting patient tasks in precise synchronization with image acquisition so that a single technologist can efficiently manage the entire procedure. Version 2.0 introduced a completely redesigned user interface and a visual paradigm builder, providing a strong foundation for the next phase of the product's evolution. As a core member of the development team, you will play a key role in shaping its future direction.

For the remainder of your time, you will serve as the primary engineering liaison with one of the world's leading MRI manufacturers, headquartered in the Milwaukee area, whose scanner platforms integrate with our products. In this role, you will own the day-to-day technical relationship, leading integration activities from concept through implementation, collaborating closely with their engineering teams, and acting as the bridge between their organization and our development team. You will also participate in technical workshops, product planning, and roadmap discussions. This position offers significant external visibility and the opportunity to represent NordicNeuroLab in interactions with a strategic industry partner.

You will work closely with colleagues in our international engineering team, while operating with a high degree of autonomy. This role offers a unique opportunity to establish and grow our engineering presence in the US. It requires someone who is self-directed, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of both technical challenges and external relationships without requiring close day-to-day supervision.

Duties of the role

  • Design, implement, and maintain software solutions in the medical technology/medical imaging industry
  • Act as the primary engineering contact for the partner: answer their questions, unblock their teams, and pull in Bergen when something needs deeper expertise
  • Own integration work with our partner’s MR platform, from technical design through testing and release
  • Contribute to technical training for the partner’s engineers and take part in roadmap planning
  • Participate in code reviews, and ensuring adhearance to the software development process

Qualifications and experience

  • Strong experience and skills working across the tech stack
  • Expected to be comfortable working within the following tools and systems: VueJs, NodeJs, Docker, AWS (ECS, EC2, ECR)
  • Good understanding of Linux-based systems, including security features
  • Experience with Docker and containerized development workflows. Knowledge of Kubernetes is a plus.
  • The ability to work independently and organize your own week.
  • Excellent English written and spoken communication skills
  • Willingness to be on-site with our partner in the Milwaukee area on a regular basis
  • Must provide a valid driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle. Mileage reimbursement will be provided.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check

Preferred

  • Experience with the following programming languages and technologies: C++, Kubernetes, GoLang
  • Familiarity with MR technology, DICOM, or medical imaging workflows
  • Experience working in a regulated environment – ISO 13485, IEC 62304, FDA
