Job Description

A GovCIO Frontend Developer works inside a cross-functional product team with designers, backend developers, DevOps engineers, and test engineers. The developer builds and maintains modern web applications using JavaScript, React, and Redux, integrating them with REST APIs on a serverless AWS backend. Strong skills in JavaScript patterns and practices, frontend frameworks, and CSS/SASS are essential. The role is hands‑on and deadline-driven. Work starts and finishes inside the sprint. The developer works from user stories and designer wireframes, builds accessible and secure user interfaces, and understands how the frontend and serverless backend fit together. This Frontend Developer position is expected to grow into a full-stack developer role, building backend services with Python and AWS serverless technologies such as API Gateway, Lambda, and Step Functions. Skills in AWS, Python, and AI coding assistants is essential for this growth.

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain React and Redux applications in JavaScript.

  • Integrate frontends with REST APIs on AWS API Gateway and Lambda.

  • Build backend services in Python on AWS serverless technologies as you grow into full-stack work.

  • Integrate AI features built on large language models and vision models into applications, including prompt and context engineering.

  • Build applications that handle non-deterministic AI output, where the same input can produce different valid results.

  • Build pages from designer wireframes using CSS and SASS.

  • Meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.

  • Apply frontend security practices, including OWASP guidelines, authentication, JWT handling, and PHI/PII protection.

  • Maintain the frontend build chain and keep dependencies current.

  • Write unit and component tests. Build and maintain Cypress end-to-end tests in the CI/CD pipeline.

  • Submit and review GitHub pull requests.

  • Take part in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and estimation. Write user stories and tasks in Jira.

  • Post daily status updates in Jira.

  • Support UAT, Authority to Operate (ATO), and security compliance activities.

  • 5+ years of JavaScript development.
