Job summary

Surge IT is seeking a Full Stack Developer to create cloud-native applications using Java/Spring Boot microservices and modern JavaScript SPA frameworks. The role designs scalable backend APIs and responsive frontend apps aligned to business needs.

The ideal candidate will follow Agile methodologies, contribute to design documentation, and push quality through automated testing, CI/CD, and AI-assisted development tools. On-site in Alexandria, VA is expected.

Qualifications

• Strong backend experience with Java/Spring Boot and microservices architecture.
• Experience building REST/JSON APIs and data modeling with JPA/Hibernate.
• Proficiency with AWS services (Lambda, S3, SQS/SNS, ECS/EKS, CloudWatch) and event-driven design.
• Frontend experience with modern JavaScript SPA frameworks (React, Angular, or Ember).
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS/SASS, and Bootstrap for responsive UIs.
• Experience creating unit/integration/end-to-end tests (JUnit/Mockito/Jest/Cypress/Playwright).
• Familiarity with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (GitHub, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Ability to stay current with new technologies and integrate them into existing systems.

Candidate will follow Agile methodologies, contribute to design documentation, and drive quality through automated testing, CI/CD, and AI-assisted development tools.

Required Skills

• Excellent problemsolving skills, including identifying areas for improvement for application code and development processes
• Strong backend experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, REST/JSON APIs, JPA/Hibernate, and microservices architecture
• Experience with AWS services (Lambda, S3, SQS/SNS, SES, ECS/EKS, CloudWatch) and eventdriven architecture
• Strong knowledge and development experience in componentbased JavaScript frameworks like React, Angular, or Ember
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS/SASS, and Bootstrap
• Experience designing unit, integration, and endtoend automated tests (JUnit, Mockito, Jest, Cypress, or Playwright)
• Experience with database design including Stored Procedures, DML, and DDL tasks
• Experience with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized applications using tools like GitHub, Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Ability to stay up to date on the latest technologies and how to integrate them into new and existing systems

Preferred Skills

• Experience developing UI libraries

• Experience with Jmeter performance tooling
