Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Roy, Utah is seeking a Sr Principal Human Factors Engineer (T04) to shape system architecture using MBSE and to drive human factors requirements across the system. You will deliver HF trade studies, verification plans, and ICDs while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Role requires TS clearance, strong communication with customers, and mentoring of junior engineers in MBSE modeling and verification best practices. Relocation assistance may be available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years related experience, or master’s degree with 6 years, or PhD with 4 years.
  • U.S. citizenship with an active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance (investigation date within the last 6 years).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval.
  • 3+ years of system architecture experience focused on human factors requirements, compliance, standards, and translation into system requirements and verification plans.
  • 3+ years of proven ability to author, manage, and trace requirements using IBM DOORS, CAMEO, or similar tools.

Sr Principal Human Factors Engineer (T04) – Roy, Utah

Relocation Assistance: May be available.
Travel: Yes, 10% of the time.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to system architecture using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools.
  • Generate, allocate, and trace human factors requirements (ergonomics, usability, crew workload, human system interface) across the system hierarchy.
  • Define verification methodology that validates compliance with human factors standards.
  • Author requirement sets and develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Produce customer deliverables such as human factors trade studies, compliance matrices, and validation reports for program reviews.
  • Participate in lab‑based demonstrations and hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) testing to verify usability and crew interaction.
  • Mentor junior engineers on engineering best practices (e.g., MBSE modeling, verification planning).
Basic Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • ICBM experience (MMIII or Sentinel).
  • 2+ years demonstrating experience with lab‑based demonstrations of human system interfaces, including usability testing and crew task simulations.
  • 2+ years experience developing MBSE models that incorporate human factors elements (e.g., ergonomic views, taskflow diagrams).
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Human Factors Engineer (CHFE) or INCOSE CSEP.
  • Experience resolving issues and providing technical support.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Capability to work with minimal direction and in team environments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience with high‑value customer presentations and managing multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems, including engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.
  • Experience developing systems in a joint collaborative environment between contractor and customer.
Benefits and Compensation

Salary range: $122,800.00 – $184,200.00 (primary level). Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses. The position’s standard work schedule is 9/80: a nine‑hour day Monday through Thursday with every other Friday off.
