Job description

Summary

You will serve as a FUL-Recreation Fee Technician for the Acadia National Park. This is a Career-Seasonal appointment-a permanent position with full federal benefits. The work season is approximately 91⁄2 months (20 of 26 pay periods). The employee is typically placed in non-pay status from January 10 through April 3.

Major Duties

As a Recreation Fee Technician, you will perform the following duties: Conducts analysis to validate fee transactions and determine the adequacy of existing fee systems and technologies. Evaluates the functionality of new fee related systems or modifications to existing systems. Tests reservation system functionality in automated reservation systems. Provides informal and formal training and education regarding highly technical automated and non-automated fee processes, systems, software programs, tools, etc. Prepares or updates operating manuals and/or standard operating procedures. Troubleshoots technically challenging issues with fee program related technologies and equipment. Assists with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g., cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, AFMs, donation boxes, etc.). Processes reservation arrivals and departures for reservations. Collects appropriate fees at a park entrance station, visitor center, campground, and fee cannister.

This position does not allow substituting education for experience.

Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties. Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work may frequently be performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.
