Job summary

The US National Park Service seeks a FUL-Maintenance Worker for Pearl Harbor National Memorial in the Facilities Division. You will perform maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and utilities, using carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting and related trades.

You will undergo a 1-year probationary period during which performance and suitability for continued employment are evaluated, with emphasis on safety, compliance, and ability to follow

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation and repair.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials used in maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications and blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair grounds, exterior structures and buildings, plus related utilities.
  • Apply a range of trade practices including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, and painting.
  • Work in Facilities Division at Pearl Harbor National Memorial.

Job description

You will serve as a FUL-Maintenance Worker. These positions are located in Pearl Harbor National Memorial in the Facilities Division.

This position performs simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades.

Requirements Continued

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider:

  • your performance and conduct;
  • the needs and interests of the agency;
  • whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government;
  • whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.

Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.

Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  1. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)
  2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.
  3. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  4. Knowledge of Materials
  5. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)
  6. Use of Measuring Instruments
  7. Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic)
