The US National Park Service is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic responsible for building and utility maintenance and operation duties using journeyman skills across multiple trades. You will read specifications and blueprints, maintain tools and equipment, and apply technical practices to uphold park facilities.

Applicants should demonstrate experience with materials, measuring instruments, and safe operation of maintenance systems.

Qualifications

  • Must meet qualifications by closing date 09/18/2026.
  • Qualifications include ability to perform at journeyman level in two of these trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, water treatment, or roofing.
  • Ability to read instructions, specs and blueprints; knowledge of materials and technical practices are required.
  • Experience with tools, equipment, and measuring instruments is necessary.

Job description

You will serve as a FUL - Maintenance Mechanic. The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Incumbent utilizes journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/18/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.


For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the work schedule requirement as the service dates will be reflected. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  • Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)
  • Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)
  • Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.
  • Knowledge of materials
  • Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic)
  • Use of Measuring Instruments

SCREENOUT: Have experience that demonstrates the ability to perform most of the work as a Maintenance Mechanic at the journeyman level. without more than normal supervision. Have performed at this level in two of the following trades: Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Masonry, Water Treatment Plant Operations, or Roofing.
