Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business management; equivalent experience may substitute.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience with scheduling and cost tracking is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Study contracts and explain requirements to staff.
  • Review job schedule and planning intervals.
  • Coordinate work with owners, consultants, subcontractors and other entities.
  • Prepare budgets and track progress and costs.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Ensure compliance with codes and project documents.
  • Close out project with final documentation and owner handover.

Job Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for planning and execution of a construction project as part of a project team. This position plans and coordinates the activities concerned with the construction of structures, facilities, and systems of a construction project.

Essential Functions
  • Study Contract Documents to thoroughly understand the scope of work and explain plans and contract requirements to administrative and field staff.
  • Participate in site pre-planning meeting. Review scope of work in detail. Review and discuss any special job requirements.
  • Discuss the schedule and participate in a comprehensive review of the Job Schedule.
  • Discuss methods for interval planning (i.e., daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc.), review forms and reporting methods.
  • Confirm that all required permits and licenses have been obtained.
  • Responsible for the management of a variety of project documentation, including, but not limited to, processing and review of submittals and writing and coordinating of RFI's.
  • Assist with and/or be responsible for coordination of work activities and other project requirements with Owner, consultants, subcontractors, and other entities.
  • Assist in and/or negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Assist in preparation of budget estimates and progress and cost tracking reports.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
  • Confer with the Superintendent to take appropriate actions to deal with the results of delays, bad weather, or emergencies at the construction site.
  • Attend weekly job site meetings and maintain/revise interval planning requirements to satisfy job conditions.
  • Assist Project Manager with evaluation of changes and discuss impact on job completion.
  • Assist in review and updating of the project schedule with Project Manager and Superintendent and assist in the evaluation of effects of changes on the project work plan.
  • Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with the Contract Documents, building and safety codes, and other requirements and regulations.
  • Assist in the initiation and pricing of change orders and claims.
  • Review job charges (Material, Sub-contract, Equipment Rental, Labor, etc.).
  • Participate in the investigation of damages, accidents, or delays at construction sites.
  • Close-out project with Superintendent and confirm all required documentation has been submitted/provided to the Owner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction documents.
  • Skilled with Microsoft (MS) Excel and Word.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically and creatively, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems and control resources.
  • Skilled in interpersonal communication to connect and assist with staff and clients.
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize, work well under stress, meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings and other structures.
  • Ability to identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Knowledge of MS Project or Primavera.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business management. Equivalent years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, civil engineering and construction management.
  • Minimum 4 years' recent experience on Fuels, or commercial/industrial construction projects.

Physical Qualifications
  • Mobility: must be able to stoop, kneel, reach, walk, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Hearing: must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
  • Visual Acuity: must be adequate to perform the above listed tasks in a safe manner and perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
  • Lifting: must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
