Summary Of Responsibilities

The Fuel Trailer Driver is responsible for safely transporting and delivering fuel to equipment and machinery on active construction sites. The role involves operating a fuel trailer (NOT a fuel truck), maintaining accurate fueling logs, performing basic mechanical and maintenance tasks, and supporting crews to keep equipment operational throughout the workday.

Fueling Operations
  • Haul and operate a fuel trailer to service construction equipment across multiple job sites.
  • Follow all safety protocols for fuel handling, spill prevention, and equipment shutdown procedures.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of gallons dispensed and equipment serviced.
  • Monitor fuel inventory and notify the supervisor when fuel levels need replenishing.
Trailer Operation & Site Mobility
  • Safely tow and maneuver a dual‑axle fuel trailer through construction environments.
  • Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections on trailer and towing vehicle.
  • Ensure all couplings, connections, hoses, and pumps are secure and functioning properly.
  • Assist field operations with relocating equipment as directed.
Basic Mechanical Support
  • Perform simple maintenance tasks such as checking oil, topping off fluids, and changing tires if needed.
  • Report equipment issues or unusual mechanical concerns to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain clean, organized tools, hoses, and fueling components.
Compliance & Safety
  • Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and environmental standards.
  • Adhere to DOT rules applicable to non‑CDL trailers.
  • Maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and a renewed driver’s license.
  • Participate in required safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Estimating Software, Takeoff Software, Adobe).
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong negotiating skills, including proactive dispute resolution.
  • Financial and job cost accounting knowledge.
  • Able to work under pressure, coordinate numerous activities, and manage groups of people who need to cooperate to achieve project and company goals.
Education And/or Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior trailer hauling experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude (oil changes, tires, fluid checks).
  • Experience working on construction sites is a plus, but not required.
Licenses & Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Clean MVR (subject to approval prior to hire).
  • CDL not required.
Technical Skills
  • Ability to operate a dual‑axle trailer confidently and safely.
  • Understanding of small engines, pumps, and basic mechanical tools.
  • Ability to complete fueling logs and basic paperwork accurately.

Physical Demands

Work is performed outdoors on active construction job sites. Exposure to weather conditions, loud equipment, and fuel handling. Must be able to stand, bend, and lift up to 100 lbs. Requires operating vehicles, towing trailers, and performing manual tasks on a regular basis.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to various extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
