Job summary

Penn Medicine at Penn Radnor seeks a Medical Assistant to support the thoracic OR team in a collaborative academic setting. You will work with the practice manager and physicians to deliver patient-centered care and coordinate care across the clinic.

Responsibilities include rooming patients, updating EMR, obtaining vitals, performing phlebotomy and EKGs, assisting with minor procedures, administering medications, and coordinating referrals.

Qualifications

  • Must be CMA or RMA credentialed
  • BCLS required
  • High school diploma or GED

  • Coordinate telephonic patient care, scheduling and referrals
  • Help nursing staff with patient education materials and instructions
  • Maintain cleanliness, sterilization, equipment checks, supply restocking
  • Ensure compliance with infection control and HIPAA regulations
  • Access secured areas, manage inventory and deliver medications
  • Daily code/crash cart checks and medication storage security

Job description

We are seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to support our thoracic OR team at Penn Radnor. The MA works closely with the practice manager and physicians to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care in a collaborative academic environment.

Responsibilities
  • Promptly room patients, review and update EMR, obtain vitals, schedule lab work, and ensure insurance compliance.
  • Observe patient conditions, communicate abnormalities, assist with transfers, dressing, and exam preparation.
  • Manage specimens: perform phlebotomy, swabs, lab tests, document results, and conduct quality controls.
  • Perform EKGs and other screening tests per physician order, accurately documenting results in EMR.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures: hand instruments, maintain sterile field, position patient, witness consents, and respond to emergencies and codes.
  • Administer medications, injections, vaccines, and read PPD results as required for a Certified Clinical Assistant.
  • Coordinate telephonic patient care, including scheduling, referrals, and follow‑up communication.
  • Assist nursing staff with educational materials and patient instructions.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sterilization, equipment checks, and supply restocking per protocol.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, universal precautions, and federal/state/local regulations (TJC, DOH, FDA, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Access secured medication and supply areas, manage inventory, and deliver medications as ordered.
  • Perform daily code/crash cart checks and maintain medication storage security.
Credentials
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) – required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – required.
  • MA certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED – required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years experience as an MA or 1 year as a Clinical Support Representative at Penn Medicine may be considered in lieu of program completion.
  • 1+ year related experience is preferred.
