Job summary

City of Cleburne is seeking a Golf Course Supervisor to oversee daily operations, supervise staff, and manage agronomic practices on the municipal golf course. You will also maintain irrigation systems, equipment, and facilities, ensuring safety and compliance.

The position reports to the Golf Course Superintendent in their absence. Ideal candidates have significant golf course maintenance experience, supervisory skills, and a turf-focused education.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; five years golf course maintenance experience; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Two-year turf grass management certificate or four-year degree in agronomy/horticulture with turf focus; equivalent experience considered.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance and agronomic management of the golf course.
  • Direct maintenance workers and seasonal staff; act as Golf Course Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent.
  • Maintain irrigation systems, vehicles, buildings, and facilities; ensure safe operations and compliance with regulations.

Job description

Compensation - $24.00/hr

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This is a working supervisory position that involves a combination of duties including; supervision, maintenance and agronomic management of the golf course, maintenance equipment, irrigation systems, vehicles, related buildings/facilities and perform the daily activities necessary to perform the functions of the position. Acts as the Golf Course Superintendent in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent. Directs team of maintenance workers and seasonal staff in maintaining the golf course.


NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  • Act in absence of Superintendent/develop as a future superintendent

  • Ability to read soil test reports, and act upon those results.

  • Skilled in aerification, topdressing, verticutting, and slicing practices

  • Skilled in arborological practices

  • Skilled in irrigation computer, field satellite controllers, timing, and quantity of water applied

  • Skilled in operations of the irrigation pump station

  • Knowledge of golf course maintenance operations

  • Skills in oral and written communication

  • Ability to instruct others in the techniques of golf course maintenance

  • Ability to service and make minor repairs to equipment and to know safety standards to prevent hazards

  • Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment such as mower and trimmers

  • Ability to meet and work with the public in a friendly and courteous manner

  • Knowledge of golf equipment and supplies

  • Ability to coordinate course maintenance and repair.

  • Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting golf course operation and environmental management

  • Ability to executive in terms of problem solving and decision-making

  • Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of a golf course including environmental standards


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or its equivalent, and five years of experience in golf course maintenance and at least two years of experience in a supervisory capacity preferred; must have proven management and problem solving skills.


2 year program certificate for turf grass management and/or 4 year degree in agronomy or horticulture with a turf grass management focus.


OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to complete the job will be considered.


CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED

A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record


Texas Department of Agriculture Spray License or ability to obtain within six (6) months,


ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS

Primarily in an outdoor environment with the ability to operate indoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months.

Tractors, reel-type and rotary mowing equipment, string trimmers, utility carts, chain saws, etc.
