PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for retail store operations during the evening hours making decisions impacting store associates, merchandise quality and presentation and the level of service offered to our customers. Ensure conditions involving security, safety, and food safety are consistently maintained at the highest levels.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager with the day-to-day operations of the entire store
2. Responsible for hiring, training, and developing associates
3. Manage performance through performance management, coaching, appraisal and disciplinary efforts
4. Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with primary emphasis on fast and easy customer service
5. Provide leadership and motivation within the store to promote a culture reflective of Food Lion's Guiding Principles, Core Values, Vision and Strategy
6. Ensure proper control of all store funds and company assets
7. Observe and correct all unsafe conditions that could cause associate or customer accidents
8. Observe and ensure compliance with company guidelines, policies, standard practices, security, safety, and food safety standards
9. Understand and use company tools such as financial reports, average cost inventory system (ACIS), scheduling, productivity, ordering (CAO), and business information systems
10. Support the achievement of store budgeted financial and operating results
11. Maximize sales through excellent customer service and minimize shrink through proper utilization of Standard Practices to ensure that inventory and moneys are accounted for; provides coaching for associates to recognize and prevent losses
12. Ensure store conditions, customer service and satisfaction, product quality, freshness, availability, variety and execution of all policies and procedures
13. Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations
14. Ensure that staffing schedules across departments meet the business needs
15. Constant interaction with associates; ensure associates understand Food Lion's expectations and have the tools and training to be successful
16. Successfully complete Computer Based Training (CBT), Training Packet and Training Aid courses
17. Perform all other duties and projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school graduate or equivalent
2. Department Manager or equivalent experience required
3. Strong understanding of store operations and total store merchandising techniques
4. Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills
5. Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job
6. Good judgment solving problems, making decisions, handling complaints, arbitrating disputes and resolving grievances
7. Desire and ability to lead and manage associates throughout multiple departments
8. Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions
9. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations
10. Must be accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar accrediting organization as a 'Certified Food Safety Manager' or will be required to attend company provided training and have the ability to achieve accreditation within the first 90 days of employment; Accreditation must be maintained while employed in a position requiring accreditation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform job functions
2. Ability to use hand held computers for orders, mark downs, scan outs, and inventory
3. Stand 100% of the time, frequently walking short distances
4. Ability to push or pull up to 2000 pounds using a pallet jack or float
5. Perform repetitive hand and arm motions
6. Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and approximately 100 lbs. on occasion
7. Be able to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning and packaging materials, and household cleaners
8. Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level: occasionally above shoulder or below waist level
9. Meet established volume activity standards for the position
10. Tolerate working in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time
11. Have sufficient visual ability to check invoices, dates, and other written documents
