Job summary

Clera is seeking a Forward Deployed Research Engineer in San Francisco, on-site, to own end-to-end resolution of urgent, ambiguous technical challenges for frontier AI labs and data vendors.

You will diagnose problems across code, data, and environments, deploy requests from labs and vendors, build tooling, and coordinate with research and GTM teams to unblock deployments.

This hands-on role requires independence, fast iteration, and clear communication across time zones.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in applied research engineering or similar hands-on roles.
• Strong AI engineering skills with rapid iteration.
• Proficiency in Python, Docker and Linux environments.
• Experience with benchmarks/evals and RL training workflows.
• Good debugging across code, data and environments.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve ambiguous technical problems across code, data and environments.
• Own deployment requests from labs, data vendors and internal teams from triage to completion.
• Ask clarifying questions to refine underspecified tasks.
• Build tools and pipelines to rapidly solve urgent problems.
• Coordinate with research and GTM teams to unblock deployments.
• Balance speed and quality when paths are not fully specified.
• Document recurring issues and convert manual work to reusable tooling.
