Front-of-House (FOH) Float

DEPARTMENT: Front of House

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Jordan Reijnen, Sr. Manager of Guest Servies & Retail Operations

STATUS: Hourly, Range $18.00 - $18.50 per hour, non-exempt

HOURS: Part Time; 4-16 hours per week

The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is a non‑profit art museum that strongly believes in our mission to inspire curiosity, wonder, and understanding by connecting people with the contemporary arts and craft of the Puget Sound region. BIMA is seeking a friendly, flexible, and solutions‑oriented person to join our Front of House team as a Front of House Float. This position provides support across several public‑facing areas of the museum, including Guest Services, the Museum Store, and special events, helping ensure a welcoming and seamless experience for guests, members, and event attendees.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; welcoming and assisting guests, answering phones and emails, tracking attendance and donations, helping guests navigate the museum, providing customer service, assisting with general Museum Store operations and sales, and stocking and restocking the Museum Store as needed. The FOH Float position will also support events as needed; setup and teardown, day‑of‑event support, and other event needs. Depending on experience and skill set, this position may also provide basic technology or audiovisual support during events.

Candidates must be available to work a combination of weekdays, evenings, and weekends, with availability on Fridays and Saturdays. Hours and responsibilities may vary based on museum operations, events, programs, and staffing needs.

The ideal candidate is an energetic, dependable, adaptable team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills who enjoys interacting with the public. They should be comfortable learning and following established procedures, moving between different responsibilities, and remaining calm and solutions‑oriented when priorities shift. A genuine interest in creating a welcoming experience for every guest is essential.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Guest Services & Front Desk
  • Provide a warm, welcoming, and inclusive experience for members, guests, event attendees, and groups entering and leaving the museum.
  • Follow BIMA's established guest welcome procedures, including providing information about admission, donations, accessibility, exhibitions, museum amenities, and navigating the building.
  • Answer guest questions about BIMA, exhibitions, programs, events, membership, the Museum Store, Bistro, and local amenities, and direct guests to appropriate resources or staff as needed.
  • Answer and route incoming phone calls and respond to general inquiries received through the Front Desk email inbox.
  • Monitor the Front Desk inbox and provide timely responses to routine questions, forwarding inquiries to the appropriate department when necessary.
  • Accurately track daily guest attendance and enter attendance information into designated systems.
  • Receive and accurately record guest donations, including cash and digital donations, following established museum procedures.
  • Assist with guest accessibility needs and provide information about available accessibility resources and accommodations.
  • Follow established opening and closing procedures for the Front Desk and public areas, including securing the space and completing required end‑of‑day tasks.
  • Remain knowledgeable about current exhibitions, museum programs, events, guest resources, and general museum information in order to provide accurate assistance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Museum Store Support
  • Provide friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable customer service to guests in the Museum Store.
  • Greet customers, initiate conversation, and assist guests in finding merchandise that complements their museum experience.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of store merchandise, vendors, artists, and products to confidently answer customer questions.
  • Operate the Museum Store point‑of‑sale system and accurately process purchases, returns, and other transactions as assigned.
  • Assist with membership sales and renewals, and communicate membership benefits to guests.
  • Assist with inventory processing, online orders, data entry, filing, and other administrative store projects as needed.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, and restocking merchandise.
  • Follow established procedures for cash handling, opening and closing, security, and loss prevention.
  • Assist with customer concerns and seek support from the Store Manager or appropriate staff when needed.
  • Work collaboratively with Store staff and other Front‑of‑House team members to provide a cohesive and welcoming guest experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Event & Program Support
  • Assist with the preparation and execution of museum events, programs, and special activities.
  • Help set up and tear down event spaces, including tables, chairs, signage, displays, and other event materials.
  • Assist with event check‑in, ticketing, registration, and guest flow.
  • Support event booths, tables, and informational stations as needed.
  • Assist staff with event logistics and respond to needs that arise before, during, and after events.
  • Provide basic event technology, audiovisual, or equipment support when applicable and within the employee's knowledge and skill set.
  • Help maintain a welcoming, organized, and professional environment throughout events and programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
General
  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers across departments to provide a cohesive guest experience.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and step into different front‑of‑house responsibilities as needed.
  • Follow museum security, safety, cash-handling, accessibility, and guest service procedures.
  • Maintain a professional, approachable, and welcoming presence while representing BIMA.
  • Protect confidential information and follow established procedures for handling museum records and guest information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION, SCHEDULE, & BENEFITS:
  • Compensation: $18.00 - $18.50 / hour DOE.
