Job summary

VSS International, Inc. is seeking a Chip Box Equipment Operator in Monterey County to support road construction projects. The role requires safe operation of front-end loaders and related equipment outdoors on active sites.

You will perform daily inspections, load materials, maintain clean work zones, communicate with foremen and drivers, and follow all safety rules including DOT/OSHA requirements; willingness to work overtime and weekends is needed.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of safe heavy equipment operation and hazards.
• Ability to perform basic equipment inspections, routine cleaning, fueling, lubrication, and minor maintenance checks.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, hand signals, site plans, and safety procedures.
• Strong awareness of jobsite safety, traffic movement, pedestrians, trucks, equipment, and changing weather or ground conditions.
• Ability to communicate professionally with supervisors, crew members, customers, inspectors, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate front-end loaders and other equipment to load trucks and support paving and related construction operations.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-operation inspections of equipment and attachments.
• Load and handle aggregate and other materials according to project needs.
• Maintain safe work zones and coordinate with foremen and drivers to avoid delays.
• Keep loading areas and equipment clean and organized, reporting issues promptly.
• Assist with general labor, cleanup, traffic control, and other duties when not operating equipment.
• Follow DOT, OSHA, and client safety requirements and wear PPE as required.
