This internship opportunity is within the Information Technology Department, which supports front-end development, modern UI design, and application modernization projects. This role will help build user-friendly web interfaces, contribute to improvements in existing applications, and learn how enterprise data and AI tools are used to support real agency operations. This role is ideal for students interested in gaining hands‑on experience in front‑end development, modern web practices, and practical exposure to data and AI technologies while contributing to real‑world public sector software projects.

This internship experience role provides several learning opportunities and hands‑on experience supporting real‑world public‑sector modernization initiatives. This role will be under the mentorship of experienced public‑sector IT, data, and policy professionals.

Overview Of Information Technology

The IT Department provides end‑to‑end Information Technology (IT) solutions and services, ensuring that technology initiatives align with SANDAG’s goals and operational needs. IT is responsible for driving the development and implementation of innovative IT solutions, providing information security, managing technology projects, and fostering interdepartmental collaboration. IT supports the agency's mission of delivering efficient, secure, and modernized services to stakeholders, including internal departments, member agencies, and the public.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist with developing and maintaining user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Build and update reusable, responsive web components.
• Support integration of front‑end applications with REST APIs.
• Assist with testing and troubleshooting UI issues across browsers and screen sizes.
• Work with existing design standards and component libraries to maintain consistent user experience.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, documentation, and team development activities.
• Use Git/GitHub or Azure DevOps for source control and collaborative development.
• Learn and support enterprise technologies such as ASP.NET Core APIs, Microsoft Entra ID, and Azure‑based applications.
• Collaborate with developers, designers, project managers, and other stakeholders.

Typical Qualifications

• Graduate or undergraduate level coursework in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Ability to contribute to the preparation of reports, summaries, correspondence, and presentations.
• Familiarity with at least one modern JavaScript framework or library, preferably React.
• Basic understanding of responsive web design.
• Familiarity with Git/source control.
• Basic understanding of APIs and JSON.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively within a team.
• Ability to communicate with various audiences using interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask and work on several projects simultaneously.

Intern Salaries

Pursuing Undergraduate Degree: $20.00/hour

Bachelor’s degree or higher: $23.00/hour.

One‑year opportunity working 25-29 hours per week, Monday – Friday during regular business hours.

Expected Start Date: November 2026
