Job summary

Danbury Public Schools is seeking a motivated Freshman Boys Basketball Coach for Danbury High School to oversee the freshman program, plan practices, and coordinate with varsity and JV staff to ensure cohesive development for student-athletes.

The role requires Connecticut Teaching Certification with Coaching Permit or Coaching Certification, First Aid/CPR, and Module 15 Concussion Management, plus prior coaching experience with high school students.

Qualifications

• Connecticut Teaching Certification with Coaching Permit or Coaching Certification.
• First Aid and CPR Certificates and Module 15 Concussion Management.
• Knowledge of and/or experience in basketball preferred.
• Previous coaching experience working with high school-aged students preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and supervise all team practices, games, and related activities
• Teach fundamental basketball skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and appropriate athletic behavior
• Promote the academic, social, and emotional growth of student-athletes
• Maintain effective communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, athletic staff, and school administration
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during practices, games, travel, and team events
• Monitor and enforce compliance with school, district, CIAC, and team rules and expectations
• Assist with uniform and equipment inventory and care
• Attend required meetings, trainings, and athletic department events
• Support and model positive behavior, professionalism, and good sportsmanship at all times
• Collaborate with coaching staff to develop and maintain program consistency across all levels
