Job summary

Food City is seeking an on-site internship role focused on customer service and produce preparation. You will greet customers, assist in stocking and display, and help maintain fresh produce quality while adhering to food safety standards.

The internship emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and a positive work environment. You’ll work with the Produce Manager to ensure efficient operations and friendly service across shifts.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Ability to meet physical, mental, and visual demands.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal/written instructions; perform routine tasks and interact with various people daily.
• Ability to attend on-site work during scheduled shifts and follow attendance policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers in a friendly, efficient manner to support Food City’s mission.
• Support Produce Manager with ordering, receiving, and displaying products.
• Rotate and stock merchandise to maintain freshness and quality.
• Maintain cut vegetables/fruits and ensure proper labeling and cool labels as directed.
• Ensure food safety policies are followed and sanitation is maintained.
• Assist with training of new associates as directed by the Produce Manager.
• Keep workstation clean and comply with department sanitation standards.

Essential Job Functions:

• Ensure efficient and courteous customer service at all times in support of the company mission to “Run the Best Store in Town!”
• Maintain a positive attitude; create an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork.
• Generate a positive, friendly, and fun working environment with a customer first initiative by greeting and speaking to customers, provide prompt, courteous, and efficient customer service.
• Assist produce manager in ordering, receiving, and displaying all product for processing
• Rotate all merchandise when stocking to ensure freshness and quality
• Set up and maintain cut vegetable and cut fruit sections, trim corn, package salad tomatoes as directed by the Produce Manager
• Ensure all food safety policies and procedures are being followed
• Order supplies as directed by the Produce Manager
• Assist and coordinate the training of fresh pack associates as directed by the Produce Manager
• Maintain quality and freshness of all fresh pack products
• Ensure all items required to have a COOL label are maintained daily
• Enforce and maintain the company food safety program
• Trim and package fresh produce
• Keep workstation and area around workstation neat and clean
• Department is to be sanitized and cleaned at least twice a day
• Responsible for attending on-site work during scheduled shifts to adhere to company time and attendance policies

Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Ability to meet standard Physical, Mental, and Visual demands
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions, perform routine and repetitive tasks and have constant contact/interaction with various levels of individuals on a daily basis
• Ability to attend on-site work during scheduled shifts to adhere to company time and attendance policies
