Job summary

Charah Solutions, Inc. is seeking a trained rail operations professional to operate trains that carry freight and manage automated systems for loading and unloading. The role requires reading bulletins, coordinating with crews, and ensuring rail safety while handling switches and equipment.

The position involves night, weekend, and holiday schedules, with emphasis on reliability, safety, and teamwork in a demanding industrial environment.

Qualifications

• Requires valid driver’s license.
• Two years of verifiable mechanical experience.
• General knowledge of construction site and equipment.
• Experience operating heavy equipment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of ash management, structural fills and landfills preferred.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone.
• Read and understand bulletins, work orders, and switch lists.
• Assist and instruct train crews to couple and uncouple cars, operate switches.
• Maintain awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure rail safety.
• Operate locomotive equipment.
• Properly line switches for railcar movement.
• Operate railcar equipment such as air hoses and handbrakes.
• Comprehend color and/or hand signals and systems.
• Make precise adjustments in moving controls to exact positions.
• Respond quickly to visual signals, sounds and displays.
• Communicate clearly, listen and understand information for safety and duties.
• Work night, weekend, holiday, and overtime as schedule requires.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
