Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a dock worker to move freight between docks and trailers in a fast-paced environment at the West Jefferson facility. You will use forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to load and unload freight, verify paperwork, and secure cargo for transport.

The role requires the ability to lift heavy items, work shifts that vary by need, and maintain accuracy in documentation. Prior warehousing or forklift experience is preferred, with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in warehousing, freight handling or forklift operations is preferred.
• Ability to lift and move heavy freight and operate dock equipment.
• Some hostler/yard mule duties may be required.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight between dock areas and trailers for loading/unloading.
• Operate motorized or manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Verify freight documentation matches description (type, weight, hazmat) in systems.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, or ropes.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Complete required reports and assist customers with freight documentation.
• Perform hostling duties if needed.
• Follow laws, regulations, and company policies; perform other duties as required.

Starting Rate of Pay: $ 21.16 per hour

Shift Times:
0100-0600
0300-0800
1700-2200

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading to trailers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including but not limited to: forklift, pallet jack and hand truck.

• Verify documentation matches freight description (e.g. type, weight, hazardous materials), using current electronic or manual system.

• Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies (e.g. pallets, straps, rope).

• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.

• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.

• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.

• Perform hostling duties if required.

• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.

• Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Prior experience in warehousing, freight handling and/or fork lift operations preferred.

• If hostler/yard mule duties required, experience preferred.

• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.

• Basic written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, to lift dock plates weighing approximately 100 pounds, and to open trailer doors requiring approximately 75 pounds of lift force, up to several times per day or more.

• Ability to bend, twist, squat, pushing/pulling freight throughout shift.

• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Dock environment; exposure to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, noise.

• Hours may vary due to operational need.

• Frequent contact with service center personnel; fast-paced, deadline oriented.
