Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading and unloading.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
2. Verify documentation matches freight description (e.g., type, weight, hazardous materials) using current electronic or manual systems.
3. Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies (e.g., pallets, straps, ropes).
4. Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
5. Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
6. Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
7. Perform hostling duties if required.
8. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and procedures.
9. Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Prior experience in warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operations preferred.
• Experience with hostler/yard mule duties preferred if applicable.
• Ability to perform basic math and count, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift and carry freight of varying weights several times a week, including dock plates (~100 lbs) and trailer doors (~75 lbs of force).
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, and push/pull freight throughout the shift.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Dock environment with exposure to weather, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise.
• Hours may vary based on operational needs.
• Frequent contact with personnel in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Shift Time: 0600 - 0900, 1500 - 1900

Pay Range:

$21.61 - $25.28 per hour
