Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a dock associate to transport freight across the dock area and assist with loading to trailers in Elmhurst, IL. The role demands forklift/pallet jack use, documentation verification, and safe securing of freight with straps and pallets.

Shift times run 1700–2100 with starting pay of $23.46 per hour. Benefits include health, 401(k), and time off; equal opportunity employer. Prior warehousing or forklift experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Experience in warehousing, freight handling, and/or forklift operations preferred.
• Hostler/yard mule duties experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry varying weights several times a week.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, and push/pull freight throughout shift.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklift, pallet jack and hand truck to move freight.
• Verify documentation matches freight description and weight.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps or rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with laws, regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.

Starting rate of pay $23.46/ hour

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading to trailers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including but not limited to: forklift, pallet jack and hand truck.
• Verify documentation matches freight description (e.g. type, weight, hazardous materials), using current electronic or manual system.
• Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies (e.g. pallets, straps, rope).
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Dock environment; exposure to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, noise.
• Hours may vary due to operational need.
• Frequent contact with service center personnel; fast-paced, deadline oriented.

Pay:

Hourly: $23.46 - $27.44
