Job summary

U.S. Ski & Snowboard is seeking a Freeski Womens Performance Coach for a full-time position in Park City, UT.

You will drive elite performance in women’s freeski slopestyle and halfpipe, monitor loads, design development opportunities, and progress technique, while working with a team across camps and Center of Excellence. The role emphasizes research, injury prevention, and collaboration with coaches and sport scientists; travel up to 50% and a hybrid on-site schedule are involved.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years coaching experience in a high-level domestic or international program.
  • Relevant research, medical, or high-performance training experience.
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills in these areas.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of coaching freeskiing athletes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage projects independently or with others.
  • Accounting and budget management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Establish technical, physical, and mental goals with Freeski coaches for each athlete and maintain an Athlete Development Plan.
  • Plan and execute skill-building camps outside regular programming to enhance injury-prevention skills.
  • Monitor loads and provide guidance on peak risk/opportunity.
  • Develop and test ways to reduce injuries in female freeskiing.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the high-performance team to enhance performance and safety.
  • Track physiological patterns with sports science.
  • Manage travel expenses and communicate budget with monthly reports.

SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

This role is specifically dedicated to driving elite, international performance within our women’s freeski slopestyle and halfpipe programs. Responsibilities include monitoring load volume, designing skill development opportunities, improving landing mechanics, and progressing fundamental ski and air technique. The objective is augmented performance with reduced injury rates. This is a new role that will require research and development to create a comprehensive program around these objectives, working with all other coaches for safe on‑hill progression and support at camps, contests, and the Center of Excellence with the USSS High Performance team.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish technical, physical, and mental goals in collaboration with Freeski coaches for each female athlete, creating and updating an Athlete Development Plan throughout the season.
  • Plan and execute skill‑building camps outside the regular athletic programming to enhance injury‑prevention skills.
  • Monitor physical and mental loads throughout the season for female athletes, providing guidance on peak risk and peak opportunity situations.
  • Develop and test innovative ways to reduce injuries in female freeskiing.
  • Collect and analyze data effectively, identifying trends to create new learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with all aspects of the high‑performance team to enhance female performance and safety.
  • Track and monitor physiological patterns throughout the season in conjunction with sports science.
  • Manage travel expenses and develop project sheets estimating costs per athlete; communicate, track, and balance project expenses with monthly reports with the Team Manager.
COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 5+ years coaching experience in a high‑level domestic program or elite international program.
  • Relevant research, medical, or high‑performance training experience.
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills in these areas.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of coaching freeskiing athletes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage projects independently or in coordination with other coaches/programs.
  • Accounting and budget management skills.
  • Position will be based in Park City, UT.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, video review/edit knowledge.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Skiing to and from training and course venues, accessing all parts of a halfpipe and slopestyle/course venue; driving long distances worldwide with athletes.
