Job summary

Right Side Up is seeking freelance UX/UI Designers who specialize in design systems to help clients modernize their systems for AI-assisted workflows.

The role blends tokens, variables, and component architecture with configuring AI-tooling connections across design platforms, typically in timeboxed engagements ranging from ten to forty hours per week. You will document systems and collaborate with client teams, while staying current on design-to-code workflows.

Qualifications

• Experience with tokens, variables, and component architecture.
• Hands-on fluency with AI-assisted design or coding tools.
• Strong written communication for documentation.
• Ability to work independently on timeboxed engagements.
• Experience in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments.

Responsibilities

• Audit design systems for token gaps and documentation.
• Resolve foundational issues (naming, token structure) to ensure clean translation to documentation and code.
• Build and maintain design system documentation covering components, patterns, usage guidelines, and variant rules for AI-fluent workflows.
• Configure and maintain AI-tooling connections between design platforms and AI assistants (Claude, Copilot, MCP-compatible).
• Extract undocumented institutional knowledge from designers and engineers into clear documentation.
• Establish governance models, contribution workflows, and success metrics for design system health.
• Collaborate with design and engineering stakeholders, translating between them without writing production code.
• Stay current on evolving AI-assisted design and design-to-code workflows.
