Job summary

Sightline Media Group is seeking freelance multimedia journalists to help Military Times and Defense News deliver the latest military, defense and national security news through timely, engaging video. You will report, present and capture video on location using a smartphone, then hand off footage to our editors for rapid publication across social platforms.

The role emphasizes clear explanations, engaging on-camera delivery, and the ability to translate complex developments into concise video

Qualifications

Experience in journalism, reporting, video production or multimedia storytelling.
Strong on-camera communication skills and the ability to speak naturally without relying heavily on a script.
Familiarity with social-first video styles for Reels, TikTok, Shorts and X.

Responsibilities

Create short, on-camera video summaries of Military Times, Defense News and other Sightline stories.
Review articles, identify key takeaways and translate into clear talking points.
Report and capture quick-turn video coverage of military, defense and national security news.
Record concise on-camera updates using a smartphone.
Explain complex developments in an accessible, accurate manner.
Occasionally conduct on-camera interviews with sources.
Submit raw footage to the video editing team for publishing across platforms.
Coordinate with editors on focus and key takeaways of each assignment.
