Job summary

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP seeks a Freelance Business Intake Researcher to join our team. This temporary six-month role offers remote flexibility within commuting distance of our offices across Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C.

You will gather and analyze financial info, regulatory histories, and news from external databases to assess risk for new client engagements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience compiling and analyzing risk assessment reports.
  • Experience with corporate risk assessment research and due diligence using third-party databases.
  • Bachelor's Degree; advanced legal or business degree or KYC/AML certification preferred.
  • Understanding of KYC/AML requirements; ability to read financial statements; familiarity with SEC filings.
  • Strong communication, oral and written.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze financial information and litigation histories from external databases for risk assessment.
  • Collaborate with intake attorneys and partners on evaluating risk for new clients and matters.
  • Conduct special searches for potential risk issues related to incoming lateral attorneys or mergers.
  • Participate in projects improving new business intake practices and risk management.
  • Assist Conflicts team in assessing conflicts of interest under Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • Support Litigation Holds, Subpoenas, and OCG intake with QA and paralegal teams.

Job description

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is looking for a Freelance Business Intake Researcher to join our team in our Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York or Washington D.C. offices.

This is a temporary position lasting six months. This position offers the flexibility to be fully remote while working within reasonable commuting distance from any of our offices.

This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the screening of potential client engagements in accordance with the firm's risk management procedures and policies.

On a typical day you will:
  • Gather and analyze financial information, regulatory and litigation histories, and recent news from external corporate and governmental databases (such as Dun and Bradstreet, TLO, Bloomberg, Lexis, SEC, etc.) from a risk management and due diligence perspective.
  • Work with intake attorneys and reviewing attorneys (Practice Group heads and Partners in Charge) responsible for new client and new matter intake in evaluating risk management issues related to new clients and matters. Work with litigation partners to assess financial viability of potential new matters through external corporate research and analysis.
  • Run special searches as needed, to identify potential risk management or business issues with respect to incoming lateral attorneys, potential mergers, and other special circumstances.
  • Participate in special projects involving new business intake best practices and risk management initiatives within the Information Governance department.
  • Assist the Conflicts team as needed in assessing whether a conflict of interest exists under the applicable Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • Partner with the Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) Paralegals to assist the Claims Counsel and General Counsel with interpreting and executing Litigation Holds, Subpoenas, and Protective Orders; and assist in the Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCG) intake process.
  • Assist with other research and administrative tasks, and/or support cross-departmental teams as assigned.

  • 5+ years’ experience compiling and analyzing risk assessment reports
  • Prior experience with corporate risk assessment research and analysis and/or investigative due diligence, including the ability to analyze, cross-reference and summarize findings from third-party proprietary databases and public records such as Dun and Bradstreet, Lexis, TLO, Bloomberg, etc.
  • Bachelor's Degree; advanced legal or business degree or KYC/AML compliance certification preferred
  • Understanding of KYC/AML requirements; ability to read financial statements; knowledge of and ability to analyze SEC filings; familiarity with current trends in the legal and financial services industries.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail, analysis, proofreading and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team player able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service skills, including understanding and responding quickly to a variety of inquiries.
  • Ability to contribute ideas for process improvements.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines with expedited turnaround times.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Intapp and data intake processing software.

The hourly range for this position in Washington is $42.05 to $45.64. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate’s education, training, experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Paid sick leave is accrued on a biweekly basis at a rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked. Temporary employees working at least 30 hours per week may be eligible for health insurance with an optional HSA, dental insurance, vision care, telemedicine and virtual short term solution based counseling services, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, sick time, and an employee assistance program.

California

The hourly range for this position in Los Angeles is $42.05 to $45.64; and in San Francisco is $48.21 to $50.77. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Paid sick leave is accrued on a biweekly basis at a rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked. Temporary employees working at least 30 hours per week may be eligible for health insurance with an optional HSA, dental insurance, vision care, telemedicine and virtual short term solution based counseling services, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, sick time, and an employee assistance program.

New York

The hourly range for this position in New York City is $49.45 to $50.55.
