Job summary

The Office of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Inspector General (OIG) in New York City seeks an Investigator to lead confidential investigations into fraud, waste and abuse affecting the MTA and its contractors. Investigations will involve data analysis, interviews, and reporting of findings to senior officials.

The Investigator will examine evidence from multiple sources, conduct interviews, prepare reports, and may testify in hearings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in criminal justice, public administration, law, social sciences or related field.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement procedures and standards.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Command of investigative and interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to conduct and direct interviews.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Travel within the MTA’s geographic area may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality, complex investigations into fraud, waste and abuse by the MTA and affiliates.
  • Conduct interviews of subjects, witnesses, and others of interest during investigations.
  • Conduct or assist in surveillance at off-site locations.
  • Develop and research investigative leads.
  • Serve subpoenas.
  • Analyze complaints, data and reports to identify investigation avenues.
  • Testify in administrative hearings and work with prosecutorial agencies as required.
