Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. (PCC) – Mentor, OH is seeking a 1st shift FPI Inspector, Level I Reader, to join the Quality team on-site.

This hourly role reports to the Finishing Area Manager and runs 6a–2p with a focus on fluorescence penetrant inspection of investment cast parts. Responsibilities include preparing parts, applying penetrants, developing and recording results, and maintaining safe, compliant work areas.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; may be substituted by experience.
  • FPI Level I certification through NAS-410 training preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fluorescence penetrant inspection (FPI) on investment cast parts according to procedures.
  • Prepare parts and process fluids, develop and document results; maintain records.
  • Interpret procedures and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain clean, organized work area and adhere to MSDS and safety rules.
  • Report to Finishing Area Manager and support with process improvements.

Job Description

1st shift FPI Inspector

Title: FPI Inspector - Level I Reader

Status: Hourly

Shift: 1st, 6a - 2p

Reporting Relationship: Reports directly to Finishing Area Manager

Location: Mentor / RP, OH

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred and may be substituted by experience. Must possess basic computer skills.

Comfortable using a team approach to problem solving. Have strong sense of urgency. Individual must be a motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customers, clients, co-workers and supervisors.

Work Experience: Previous FPI Level I certification (preferred) through an organized training course per NAS-410.

Principal Area of Responsibility: The FPI, Level I will perform the necessary operations and control checks that require investment casting to be processed using equipment and fluorescent penetrant materials in order to prepare the parts for inspection personnel.

Specific Duties:

  • Incumbent must handle hazardous waste in accordance with the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and company policy.
  • Prepares solutions, cleans parts, applies fluorescent penetrate solution, washes parts, develops them, dries and otherwise processes parts through the FPI line. Complies with standard procedures for checks on equipment and fluids
  • Degreases parts as required.
  • Meet the specific requirements of the efficiency standard as established by Engineering.
  • Interprets accurately and follows Standard Operating Procedures and Engineering Procedures.
  • Records on a daily basis all work performed and correct distribution of work time identifying same by operational codes.
  • Maintain all required process records.
  • Keeps work area clean, orderly and in safe condition, following all safety rules.
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customers, clients, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Assure product is properly processed to the applicable method sheets. Perform additional duties assigned by Department Supervisor and/or the Level III.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Incumbent must physically and mentally perform the job demands as listed below.
  • The ability to handle high stress associated with high activity with tight deadlines.
  • Pass visual acuity test with corrected or uncorrected vision. Pass the color perception test showing capability to distinguish and differentiate between colors used in the process involved
  • Willing to devote personal time toward the study of all data required to pass the Level I certification.
