Job description

At Tiger Data, formerly Timescale, we empower developers and businesses with the fastest PostgreSQL platform designed for transactional, analytical, and agentic workloads. Trusted globally by thousands of organizations, Tiger accelerates real-time insights, drives intelligent applications, and powers critical infrastructure at scale. As a globally distributed, remote-first team committed to direct communication, accountability, and collaborative excellence, we’re shaping the future of data infrastructure, built for speed, flexibility, and simplicity.

As an FP&A Analyst at Tiger Data, you will help run the financial rhythms that keep a fast-growing business aligned and on track. Reporting to our FP&A leader, you will own planning and analysis across headcount, cost of goods sold, marketing spend, and recurring forecast updates. You will also be responsible for turning complex financial and operating data into meticulous, executive-ready materials for our leadership team and Board.

This is a builder role for someone who is excellent at core FP&A work and energized by creating structure in an environment that is still evolving. You will not simply update templates or publish numbers. You will investigate what is driving the business, write clear performance narratives, and help our leaders make better decisions.

This role is remote within the United States. We ideally seek candidates based on the East Coast or able to work substantial East Coast hours to ensure strong overlap with our broader teams.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE
  • Owning headcount planning, forecasting, and budget tracking across the business, including approved roles, hiring timing, compensation assumptions, and changes against plan.
  • Maintaining a clear view of cost of goods sold and supporting recurring COGS forecasting, variance analysis, and performance reporting.
  • Partnering with Marketing to monitor spend, understand changes against budget, and evaluate the financial impact of programs, campaigns, and partnerships.
  • Supporting the weekly ARR forecast by gathering inputs, validating assumptions, identifying changes, and helping maintain a reliable forecasting cadence.
  • Preparing recurring financial slides, executive materials, and written performance updates that explain what changed, why it changed, and what requires attention.
  • Running budget-versus-actual analysis and following up with department leaders on spending changes, risks, and forecast updates.
  • Supporting monthly and quarterly planning conversations with clear financial analysis and well-organized materials.
  • Partnering with Accounting during the month-end close to improve the accuracy and timeliness of accruals, expense reporting, and variance explanations.
  • Improving recurring FP&A processes, templates, and reporting workflows so the finance organization can operate with greater speed and consistency.
  • Working directly with financial and operating data, validating inputs, identifying inconsistencies, and escalating issues that could affect business decisions.
  • Using AI tools to accelerate analysis, draft initial performance narratives, identify trends, and improve recurring workflows while maintaining strong human judgment, confidentiality, and financial accuracy.
  • Owning the creation of meticulous Board and executive materials, including financial slides, performance narratives, variance explanations, and supporting analysis. You will ensure every number is accurate, every message is clear, and every takeaway is decision-useful.
YOU COULD BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU
  • Have strong FP&A experience, including forecasting, headcount planning, budget management, and variance analysis.
  • Can independently manage recurring financial processes and produce accurate work with limited supervision.
  • Are comfortable partnering directly with department leaders and asking thoughtful questions when assumptions or spending plans do not make sense.
  • Can move from financial data to a clear written explanation of business performance.
  • Have a strong sense of intellectual curiosity and constantly find yourself asking “why” rather than simply reporting the numbers
  • Have strong spreadsheet and financial modeling skills and are comfortable working with large or imperfect datasets.
  • Care deeply about data integrity and will investigate a number that looks wrong rather than simply passing it along.
  • Are curious about how AI can improve finance workflows and have demonstrated sound judgment in applying AI tools to analytical work.
  • Believe that organizations are best when they’re diverse and inclusive, and you’re committed to ensuring that everything we do at Tiger Data reflects this belief.
YOU MIGHT NOT BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU
  • You prefer to receive fully defined instructions rather than take ownership of an open-ended financial question.
  • You are uncomfortable following up with business leaders or challenging assumptions when something does not align with the plan.
  • You prefer a highly structured finance environment with mature systems and fixed processes.
  • You want a purely strategic role without recurring ownership of forecasts, budgets, reporting, and planning cadence.
  • You treat slides and write-ups as formatting exercises rather than tools for helping leaders understand and act on financial information.

Salary range: $110,000 – $135,000 USD annually, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits including health insurance and flexible/unlimited PTO.

OUR COMMITMENT:
  • We respond to every applicant.
  • We review applications fairly and objectively, and shortlist based on relevant skills and experience.
  • We ensure clear and timely communication throughout your candidate journey.
  • We maintain a rigorous interview process with a high bar, designed to give you the opportunity to meet various team members you’ll collaborate with across our organization.
