Job summary

Forage is seeking a Founding Product Engineer to build the next generation of financial products for low-income Americans. You will partner with our Product Lead to prototype, launch, and scale new experiences across the Forage app, online and in-store grocery checkout, and other surfaces.

This highly entrepreneurial role requires ownership from idea to production, collaboration with Product and Design, and shaping both product and technical foundations to unlock broad consumer impact.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally building consumer-facing products from 0 to 1.
• Strong full-stack engineering skills enabling end-to-end product experiences.
• Product mindset focused on customer problems, not just code.
• Experience in highly ambiguous environments where requirements evolve.
• Track record of moving ideas to prototypes to production with quality.
• Frontend expertise with React and TypeScript and ability to build backend systems.
• Experience designing backend services, APIs, integrations, and data models.
• Solid fundamentals in system design, testing, debugging, performance, and scalability.
• Ability to trade speed, quality, UX, and long-term scalability pragmatically.
• Strong communication and collaboration with Product, Design, Data, Legal, Security, and business teams.
• High ownership and drive problems to measurable customer outcomes.
• Passion for advancing financial inclusion for millions of Americans.

Responsibilities

• Build new financial products from 0 to 1, turning ideas into prototypes and production experiences.
• Own products end-to-end from architecture through launch, monitoring, and scale.
• Shape product decisions with technical input during discovery and execution.
• Prototype and ship early versions to learn from real users and validate hypotheses.
• Build across the stack including consumer apps, backend services, APIs, data models, and integrations.
• Create intuitive, trustworthy consumer experiences for financial products.
• Integrate with financial institutions, fintech platforms, retailers, and third-party partners.
• Use data with Product and Data to measure performance and drive iteration.
• Balance speed with security, privacy, reliability, and regulatory considerations.
• Set early architectural foundations to support scalable, 0-to-1 product areas.
• Help establish engineering practices, standards, and culture as the team grows.
